"Hello, I'm Kavita and a true craft lover. I was born and brought up in Delhi. I led a very simple life and got married when I was in my early twenties. My husband, Yogenger Sharma who was a lecturer at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, motivated me to do something and this is how I started an online bookstore. For nearly a decade, I ran this store. During that time, I had the opportunity to learn a lot about Indian handicrafts and the enormous possibilities and endless creativity that our art has to offer the world.
"Another interesting instant that also drew me closer to the field of handicrafts was my husband's association with an NGO in Uttarakhand. It help poor people find a source of income through raising rabbits. The wool from the rabbits is purchased by the NGO, spun and sold. Later, the workers were taught to do the spinning themselves so they could earn more.
"The serene atmosphere of the hill country and the possibility of using the wool to create a variety of items helped me all the more to realize my dream. I decided to venture into the field of handicrafts. With great expectations, I opened an office in Delhi with a small group of designers and marketers.
"We organized artisans from different parts of Uttar Pradesh and started designing floor coverings and other home furnishings. I love the vast creativity you can apply to rugs and dhurries. No matter what I see in shops and markets, I always want to do something different. I just love experimenting.
"Our designs are all basically inspired by India's age-old tradition of carpet weaving. Besides our exquisite collection of floor coverings, we also create curtains, cushion covers and bedspreads. Soon we hope to introduce accessories like stoles and throws.
"This is just the beginning."
